We still have work to do. The district had a decline of 9 percent in the graduation rate for African American/Black students and a decline of 11 percentage points for our Children in Transition in 2016. Overall the Black/African American graduation rate has risen 6 percentage points since 2013, so gains are being made, but we will remain vigilant in the work that still needs to be done.
Please join me in applauding not only this academic achievement of the highest graduation rate in WCSD history, but also the bright future that lies ahead for our students now that they have earned their diplomas. Also, let’s congratulate the staff members at all of our schools—from pre-kindergarten through high school—because their efforts, beginning in the earliest days of these students’ education, have helped us move closer to our goal of Every Child, By Name and Face, to Graduation.
I was proud to stand up in front of our community and announce these great strides. It embodies what we as a school district can accomplish when we work in partnership with our community.
Thank you for helping all of our students succeed,
Traci Davis
